Project introduction:

Rainbow Volunteer Club (RVC) has been working in slum communities around Kathmandu since April 2020, integrating social resources, providing food, drinking water, emergency supplies, and sanitary supplies for children and their families living in slum communities, and providing educational support.

In slums, people face different challenges and risks every day. To a large extent, people living here need to face scarcity of food and water, and also risk of disease as well as the effects of weather changes and challenges brought about by human expulsion, etc.

With the spread of the new coronavirus epidemic in recent years, the job opportunities in slums have decreased. Even if they find a job, they are basically brick factory porters, garbage removal workers, etc. with high physical strength, low skills and low income.

Such an environment is particularly unfriendly to children. Not only is there a lack of food, medicine, and clean drinking water, but also opportunities to receive education are often deprived of them due to low income, guardian awareness, and the availability of schools nearby.

Therefore, the RVC team regularly understands and observes the situation of people living in slums, prevents them from being seriously threatened by hunger, disease, fertility, etc., and does its best to help them. At present, we are carrying out child-friendly community work in two slums in Kathmandu, Nepal, and make efforts in terms of food supply, healthy drinking water, health and hygiene education, and try our best to reduce the threat to children caused by hunger, harsh environment and disease, and protect children's health and ensure life safety.

We also set up temporary learning centers to actively optimize and expand the work content in the field of women and girls, and carry out supportive actions in women's skills training, women's health plans for childbirth, and girls' health education, so as to help more women to obtain equal access to education. We make them aware about opportunities and rights, invite greater participation in social activities, and promote gender equality.
